care info: stained glass

HANDLING STAINED GLASS ART: 1. Handle with Clean Hands or Gloves Oils from your skin can transfer to the glass and lead, causing tarnish or smudges. Always wash your hands or wear cotton gloves before handling. 2. Support Properly Always support the piece with both hands from the bottom edges. Never lift by hanging loops, solder lines, or any part of the glass. 3. Avoid Dropping or Stacking Stained glass is fragile and can crack or become damaged from impact or stress.

CLEANING STAINED GLASS ART: 1. Dust Gently. Use a soft, dry microfiber or lint-free cloth to lightly dust the glass. Avoid abrasive cloths or scrubbing pads. 2. Clean Sparingly. If needed, wipe with a damp cloth using distilled water or a 50/50 mix of distilled water and rubbing alcohol. Avoid ammonia, vinegar, or any acidic or abrasive cleaners. 3. Polish Occasionally (Optional) If the piece has a wax polish (common in traditional finishing), you may reapply carnauba-based wax once or twice a year: o Apply a thin layer with a soft cloth. o Let dry to a haze. o Buff gently to a soft shine.

ENVIRONMENTAL CARE FOR STAINED GLASS ART: 1. Indoor Display Recommended Unless sealed or specified otherwise, stained glass panels are best kept indoors. Moisture, extreme temperatures, and UV exposure can degrade solder and finish. 2. Avoid Moist or Humid Areas High humidity can cause oxidation or white buildup on solder lines (called flux residue). If this occurs, gently clean and reapply wax if desired. 3. Window Display Tips o Use strong, secure hooks anchored into window frames or studs. o Never use suction cups or flimsy mounts. o Ensure the panel is not in direct contact with glass panes, which can cause thermal stress or breakage.

LONG TERM CARE FOR STAINED GLASS ART: 1. Inspect Annually Check for signs of cracked glass, loose solder joints, or oxidized lead. These may require professional repair. 2. Re-Wax as Needed If your piece has a wax coating and it appears dull, dry, or chalky, reapply finishing wax. 3. Store Carefully If not on display, wrap in bubble wrap or soft cloth and store in a dry, temperature-controlled area. ***CAUTION*** • Do Not Use Window Cleaners (e.g., Windex). These can cause long-term damage to solder and patina. • Keep Away from Pets and Children; For safety and preservation, display your stained glass in a secure location.
